Yet it has also driven our advance; on less fortunate backs and against less fortunate fate.

But is there really no connection there? Does such fate -- whether choice or circumstance -- speak nothing of us? Tell me we do more than advance in place; with so many left behind. Or promise me we can do better. Say we can reflect ourselves; us and them... That we can see the ways we overlap and distinguish the ways we grow apart. And pledge that we can learn; to fit all of our misshapes; to reward value beyond charity and beyond the marketplace; to be better to each other; to be better ourselves. And promise me it could be a better world. Or tell me we are at our best".

Ok. So now I've watched it. In theaters - what a waste. Yeah, it sucked! Big surprise...

The first part was so poor that I contemplating leaving my seat, or sleeping. The second part, more filled with action, was better but still not very good. It did have some cool scenes. I liked the one where the leaves were falling.

Plus and minuses then:

+ Decent face animation coped with Andy Seriks made for a good Ceasar. Yes the best actor in the movie was the computer animated ape. Not that the competition was very fierce.
+ The animal interaction was pretty cool to see.

- The script. Tired clichés stapled on top of each other like old cheese sandwishes. Some ridiculous scenes and every stereotype known to this genre.
- The directing and acting. Shallow human characters, an overplaying Lithgow was the most compelling one, the rest I've already forgotten.
- The animations. They were simply not up to snuff. I bought some shots but I was mostly not impressed. For some reason the main character was one of those that looked least convincing though the face animation did portray his feelings ok.
- The little winks back to the old series just felt trite.

Bear in mind that I'm not a die hard fan of the original series either so it's not one of those reviews. I've only seen the first one I think but I remember that I liked it.

Grade: weak 2/5

To sum it up:
Mostly a waste of time and money but it gets a bit more entertaining after the abysmal first part.

Really? Apologies to any foam-mouthed fan of the apes looking forward to this, but I thought it was a parody at first and started sniggering. Realising it was indeed a serious effort I was more amazed though the plot seem to be such a tired cliché that I almost fell asleep out of common courtesy.

And Andy Serkis as the monkey (ouch! Sorry..ape!)? He couldn't have got it by any other roles then Gollum and King Kong. I can just imagine the casting process...

WANTED: "Actor to play agonized character while jumping around in a bodysuit..."

Legend of the Seeker vs. Xena

Why is it that I can't stand more then 10 minutes of Legend of the Seeker but get almost stuck watching episodes of Xena (same producer)? Is it that LotS isn't aware that it's awful and that Xena doesn't take itself that seriously. Sure Terry Goodkind is one of the most uninteresting and cliché fantasy authors I've read (which does say a lot) and yeah the manuscript is awful, the acting likewise, but that just doesn't explain it fully. I mean Xena doesn't consist of pure brilliance either, but still it it has managed to move me to tears while LotS have had me wishing for the Apocalypse.

What a horrible horrible show.

My blog is in the process of getting a new face. I am thinking of doing a banner on top to replace the heading and to add some personality, also contemplating a faint design in the background. Will probably keep it simple.

In the next day or two I will post some songs from 2009 that I like.

Hey, almost 6 month since my last post. I have been drawing and painting some for sure even if the drawing bit has been on low steam for the last couple of months. I had an idea that this blog would only showcase my drawings and paintings and not much else. However I will try to use this more as a regular blog and will probably start posting stuff in Swedish as well. That's a new years resolution if any.

Saw this just now. Well my opinion is that the first grafitti isn't very good and that Banksys superior work gave King Robbo some mainstream attention he wouldn't have gotten otherwise. I also think the King Robbo paintover was pretty lame, I would have given it 2 thumbs up if it actually would have been clever or just the same concept and had covered up Banksys entirely as a fuck you. Now the "blend" between the two works look like crap.

A portrait of my friend Jon as a gift to his birthday from a picture he uses as avatar. I started this some months ago as a sketch that I just continued to evolve. this was actually the first realistic styled portrait I started. I am happy with the level of detail in the face but the overall proportions turned out so and so. I also seriously need to work on my blending skills. :) Very difficult for to make things not entirely pitch dark and still a solid colour.. but I had to rush it in the end. Could be a matter of the paper I used a bit as well.. not sure.

I Started painting a picture of Dirty Projectors' David Longstreth yesterday and finished it off now as I learned that they are releasing their new album today. :) Even if I knew it was around the corner it was an odd coincidence. The Album is titled "Bitte Orca" and you can listen to it here on spotify

The reference I used was a press-photograph by Mia Ferm

I used graphite and charcoal for skething and pastels to colour it again. Size is 3/4 of an A4.

Started out as a quick sketch but as I wasn't very happy with it I worked some more on it. 2h in total. A bit too small to use charcoal and pastel chalks on, at least for me. I'd do it twice as large if I could redo it. Size A4 on recycled paper. ref from a photo by Markvans.

I've had so much to do these last weeks and neglected a lot of things because of it. The Uni has been the chief culprit with me having little inspiration and motivation to acutally finish all my exams and papers off. But I'm seeing the end of it soon and summer and holidays are on the way! :)

I've been working with foley and sounddesign work on a short film as well:

My first time doing this kind of work from scratch with no sound being recorded on set. The sound is not entirely finished in this version, I have done some changes and additions since, but I don't think the finished version will be available online. My work on this short film will be done next week. I'm also happy to report that the movie won VAFF, the regional selective competition for Novemberfestivalen in Trollhättan. The original music was done by Anders Wall, a very talented chap. Directed by the equally talented Nils Moström.

I've scanned some quick drawings I've done recently and will post them on Deviantart and here this weekend.

First message.

Avelorn is something I just made up when I went to high school. I did learn later that it was a region of the Elven Kingdom in Warhammer, not sure I got it from there though. Maybe subconsciousness cause nonetheless I've been painting miniatures for the better part of my life(perhaps?). Not that I've painted like a badger on speed but that's where I've put my colour creativity when it sneaked up on me. Recently I've started to draw as well, trying to step up to the challenge of drawing lines. Miniature painting is mostly a line-less craft you see. It's about colour and lighting, and adjusting lines at most, but never about getting that jaw line just right. That is what I know nothing about, but hopefully, this time, I will actually learn.

Well enough of this drunken rambling, I'll probably have a few pieces up by next week that I've worked on recently. My nick on conceptart and deviantart, coolminiornot is Avelorn as well. And so is my mail at hotmail. This will be the homepage I will adress to for now.
